So my husband thinks that I am obsessed with bags.
He is not complely right as I don't have tons and tons of bags but he is not wrong either as I LOVE bags! Particulalry versatile bags.
Amongst others camera bags! And since it is my birthday next week and I have a wonderful practical girly synthetic leather hand camera bag on my wish list, I thought a share a few thoughts on the camera bags I have and the one that is soon to join me.
I don't even want to go into any old off the shelf typical boring camera bags I may have had in the past, I just want to talk about three camera bags.
The *emera Tote.
The Crumpler Backpack.
And Epiphanie's Lola.
Two years ago for my birthday my husband got me the cicle *emera tote.
The *emera totes were brand new back then and it was the company's first release of a camera bag. I love my *emera bag but the fun was relatively short lived as the leather part that connects the strap to the bag was faulty. The guys at *emera already knew about this problem and provided me with first class service, replacing my bag with the newer quilted bag.
This bag is just AWESOME! It's much more enhanced than the first generation bags. It's extremely well made, strong, has a laptop pouch and a zipper at the top. I can fit my Nikon D700 with the 24-70mm lens as well as another three lenses and small bits and bobs like business cards. In addition the outside material is water repellant and keeps your camera nice and safe. I am certainly well pleased with this sexy number.
BUT. There is always a but. I am a very active girl and am out and about on my bike a lot (before I got pregnant). Of course a shoulder bag is no good for biking.
So I went on the search for a sporty alternative. I was after a rucksack. Also I thought if the rucksack was side loading, then I could grab my camera without having to completely take the rucksack off. I didn't think such a camera bag existed but was soon proven wrong when I discovered this Crumpler rucksack.
It is very light, very stirdy (I think my camera could survive undamaged if I dropped this rucksack but I haven't tried for obvious reasons) and nicely spreads the weight of the equipment over the back. Idea if you are out and about all day. It fits my D700 and three lenses, it also has a lot of space for small things. The only thing I'd criticize is that it doesn't have an external net to stick a tripot or rainjacket into. Also it could do with a small external pouch for keys. Then it would be perfect. But hey, nobody's perfect.
So one might ask what kind of camera bag does this girl need now?
Well, I have had my eye on the Lola bag from epiphanie.
All the epiphanie bags look like pretty leather hand bags but are actually camera bags. They have adjustable dividers inside (like the *emera tote), a shoulder strap and come in funky colours. This bag made it's way onto my wish list as I'd love a good looking girly bag that I can carry with me at all times (when I'm not cycling of course) so I have my beloved camera with me to shoot baby when and where ever I want. Sadly the epiphanie bags are out of stock at the moment and I will have to wait until September (can you hear me cry?). I'm sure it'll be worth the wait though and I have the feeling I might be rather busy until then with my little baby girl .... :)
